CT scan ART
Art created using X-ray scans (computed tomography, CT). CT is normally used by medics, engineers and archaeologists. It helps us to look inside things without opening them up. I scan everyday objects and add colour to emphasise density differences.

Matryoshki
This image has been created from a set of wooden nesting dolls. The alternating layers of the wood grain are revealed by several different colours. The smallest doll is made from one piece of wood. The rest are hollow with joints between the connecting tops and bases
Artist

Dr Sophie Beckett
I am a STEM Artist, pairing creativity with my science background to explore the internal structural beauty of objects within the world around us. I have experience of using computed tomography for higher education research and teaching, and for commercial services, in biological anthropology (study of human bone and biological minerals), archaeology, forensics and engineering. I am inspired by how CT scans can reveal stunning features inside an object, beyond their external aesthetic appeal.
